A DTH Hammer is a percussive rock drilling tool. Unlike other drilling tools, it remains at the bottom of the hole throughout the operation, breaking rock by directly striking the drill bit. Compressed air travels down the drill pipe into the hammer and is then exhausted through the bit. This exhaust air is utilized to flush cuttings from the hole. The rotary motion is supplied by the drill head, while the feed force (or thrust) is provided by the feed system and transmitted to the hammer via the drill pipe.
