Technical Guidelines
1. Aligning Drill Rods for Stability
Maintain a straight-line alignment between underground and surface sections of the automated pneumatic drill rig drill rods to prevent lateral stress on threaded joints and premature wear.
Use laser-guided leveling tools (accuracy: ±0.5°) to verify verticality during setup.
2. Thread Engagement and Torque Control
Rotate drill rods at 30–50 RPM during thread engagement to minimize friction-induced heat (target temperature: <60°C).
Apply full torque (e.g., 1,200–1,800 N·m for 4-inch rods) using hydraulic torque wrenches, and inspect clamp inserts every 20 cycles for cracks or deformation.
Reduce unsupported rod length at the borehole entrance to ≤1.5 meters to prevent bending stresses.
3. Angular Adjustment Protocol
Begin drilling at a 5°–10° entry angle, gradually adjusting to design specifications using real-time inclinometer feedback.
Adhere to maximum bend radii:
Small-diameter rods (≤3 inch): 12× rod diameter
Large-diameter rods (>3 inch): 8× rod diameter
Limit angular shifts to ≤2° per meter during horizontal transitions.
4. Daily Maintenance Checklist
Cleaning & Lubrication
Degrease exposed gears and wipe down the rig for drilling chassis with non-corrosive solvents.
Reapply lithium-based grease to rotary joints and splined shafts every 8 operational hours.
Mechanical Inspection
Tighten all fasteners to manufacturer specs (e.g., 90–110 N·m for M12 bolts).
Check hydraulic oil levels (ISO VG 46 recommended) and replace filters if pressure exceeds 0.35 MPa.
Critical Component Care
Scrub carbide-faced chucks and slips with wire brushes to remove embedded debris.
Flush brake fluid reservoirs quarterly using DOT 4-compatible cleaners.
Safety & Efficiency Enhancements
Equip water well drilling machines with overload sensors to halt operations if rod deflection exceeds 5% of yield strength.
For pneumatic drill rigs, monitor air compressor outputs (6–8 bar optimal) to sustain consistent percussion energy.
